From the Anthology CD: CRYSTAL PLANET: While on tour playing lead guitar for Deep Purple a few years ago, I came up with this riff waiting to go onstage at a bull-fighting ring in Spain. It took some time before I could finish what I started. Eventually, the riff became a song that lead me down a path synthesizing rock guitar instrumentals with a little techno. The title refers to the fact that our planet, our world, and even our bodies, are made of crystal structures. I know this sounds funny, but this fact always made me feel one with the universe in some way. Balancing the rock meets techno thing was very much on my mind at the time, and the synthesis of the two styles was very liberating from a compositional point of view. This song became the title track for my '98 release.
